Laura Buruiana

Laura Buruiana was born 1980 in Bucharest, Romania. She has performed in the USA (e.g. Kennedy Center, "Kaufmann Hall" New York, Gardner Museum Boston, "Mostly Tchaikovsky Festival"), in France, Germany (Expo Hannover, Konzerthaus Berlin/"Young Euro Classic Festival", Usedom Musikfestival, Leipzig, Saarbrücken, Halle), Greece, Italy (Spoleto Festival, Milano, Rome), The Netherlands (in the series "New Masters on Tour" of the "International Holland Music Sessions" in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, in "Diligentia Theater" Den Haag, both with pianist Martin Tchiba), Spain and in almost all the important halls in Romania. She has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Cordova Orchestra in Santander, the Bari Orchestra, North Carolina Orchestra, Canton Orchestra (Ohio), Bratislava Radio Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra Frankfurt/Oder, the Romanian National Radio and Philharmonic Orchestras and the Botosani, Iasi, Ploiesti and Satu Mare Philarmonics. Several recordings for radio.

Cello studies in Bucharest at the "George Enescu" college and at the National University of Music in Bucharest, working with Marin Cazacu. Since 2003 she is studying in Cologne with Frans Helmerson. Master classes e.g. with Julius Berger, Johannes Goritzki, Harro Ruijsenaars, Radu Aldulescu and Vladimir Orlov.

She won first prizes in national competitions, as well as in the "Mihail Jora" competition in Bucharest (2000). After some international prizes 2002 she won 1st prize in The Young Concert Artists European Auditions in Leipzig, Germany and in 2003 1st prize in The Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York and was chosen to receive five special YCA prizes: The Jerome L. Greene Foundation Prize, which sponsored her New York debut; the Pennsylvania Prize, which brought concert engagements throughout the state; the Usedom Music Festival Prize, for an engagement in Germany; the Slomovic Prize and the Miriam Brody Aronson Prize. In 2003 she won first prize at the "Arturo Bonucci Competition" in Rome.
